INTRODUCTION

         The Department started in the year 1983 with the inception of the college. then, Political Science as an important discipline of humanities has been taught as one of the core subjects. Presently, Political Science is studied with in the following combination. 

Course Offfered : HEP (History, Economics and Political Science) 

          University of Mysore has introduced ‘Indian Constitution’ during the year 2003-2004, as a compulsory paper for all first year degree students. This has been done by the university with the primary objective of enabling students irrespective of their courses to have a fair knowledge about the process of formation and functioning of their government at the centre and states. This has provided an opportunity for the teachers of our department to teach and to be taught as well with the students of commerce and social sciences and to be taken them into the domain of Political Science.

        The department has a library of its own for the use of the faculty and to meet the need of the students. Besides, the department has a collection of question papers of previous years for the use of students.

The Department of Political science is successful in obtaining 100% Result consistently every year.

MISSION 

  • Political science is the pursuit of all political knowledge has to be made understood to the rural student.
  • Along with the state government we try to inculcate to the very importance of values and principles of Indian constitution, which is the lengthiest constitution in whole of Asia.  
  • The present generations are the vigilantes of their fundamental rights & duties. The awareness of vigilance is created in the minds of the younger generation of today about the biggest democracy of Asia. 

       Politics as well as its study in the form of Political Science are intriguing phenomena that have captured the attention of thinkers and sages since Socrates. Political Science deals with the study of the state, nation, government, politics, and policies of the government. Initially Political Science was taught only at intermediate/BA level as compulsory as well as optional course. The subject has tremendous scope in the contemporary world. It addresses the core issue of employment in the field of education, international relations like diplomacy, governance, psephology, civil society, law, and comparative politics and so on. The department welcomes all the students who opt political science as one of the subjects. The dedicated and well qualified faculty of the department is committed to facilitate, educate and guide the student community. We wish you success and good health.

Achievements
  • Megha P was awarded Dr.  K B Y Thotappa Endowment cash prize for scoring the highest marks (176/200) in Political Science during 2019-20.
Activities
  1. A Mock- parliament was successfully conducted to imbibe the essential skills of communication, leadership qualities, creativity, time management and such other events management skills in the students on 19-08-2017.
  2. The students of political science Department were taken to create awareness of Law at the court Hall of the town and made to witness the proceedings of the court and be a part in the experiential learning on 09-02-2018.
  3. As part of the field visit program students were taken to Vidhana Soudha, the Legislative Assembly Government of Karnataka Vidhana Soudha, Bengaluru in order to witness the live session of the assembly and understand the procedures and functioning of the working house on 20.2. 2020.
  4.  For Experiential Learning programme students were taken to High Court, The Sessions Court of Karnataka, High Court, Bengaluru in order to witness the live session of the court and understanding the procedure and functioning of the working court and the Legislative Assembly Government of Karnataka, Vidhana Soudha, Bengaluru in order to witness the live session of the assembly and understand the procedures and functioning of the working house on 24.08.2022.
