DEPARTMENT OF  KANNADA

INTRODUCTION

The Department came into existence with the starting of the college in the year 1983. This is one of the major departments in the college and has about 99% of the total students in the college studying Kannada has a first Language in the first two years. Students who opted Kannada as Optional subject studying for 3 years.

The Department, since its inception, has had many distinguished writers on its staff and has rendered meritorious services to the department. The present Head of the Department is Asst. Prof H M Nagabhushana.

The Department is proud to place the record that good number of students who are from rural background secured first class and have become Master Degree holders in Kannada and have occupied important position in the society like KAS Officers, Lecturers, teachers, Lawyers, Administrators, social workers and in other walks of life.

VISION

The study of Kannada makes a CITIZEN conscious of the language in school, college and business firms. Kannada is one of the unavoidable Languages of the state. Everyone is involved in the language in one way or the other. To know the depth of the language one should option for major Kannada which will inform about the vast history, values of life and culture of the Language.

  • To teach them the values of great poets and literary person.
  • To inculcate in them the values of life and make them responsible citizen of society. 
  • To enhance their knowledge for overall social and educational development.

PLAN OF ACTION OF THE DEPARTMENT FOR THE Next FIVE YEARS

The department proposes to introduce the following in next five years:-

  • Conducting State level Seminar. 
  • Interaction Programme with the great literary persons.
  • Motivating the students to involve in the literary work of the language.
  •  Language Club. 

 

HOD s Message 

The Department always tries poster the native culture , history and heritage. It also imparts the basic values of humanity in general ethical values in particular. It ingrains in  the  students of the impact of the of old Kannada Literature on the modern literary  world. It highlights the values  of Folk Literature and its influences on the present generations.
