The department enjoys the uniqueness of having been started along with the college in the year 1983.economics has been part and parcel of BA, and BBM program syllabus. All the students of BA and BBM program have been studying economics and economics have been playing a vital role in shaping the future of thousands of students during the last 32 years. See more.
In the beginning there were only 20students. Presently we have 354 students. The department of economics has had a very reputed faculty. Four members of the faculty, namely, Prof. M S Kumar, Prof. S Shanthappa, Prof. L Balkumar and Dr. K M Veeraiah occupied coveted chair of the principal in the first grade colleges coming under the JSS Mahavidyapeetha.
Every year around hundreds of students graduate from the department. Many students who are settled as officers in various departments and financial institutions, professors and lecturers in academic field. Many have entered teaching profession at the primary and secondary level playing a responsible role in the development of the future citizens of the country. Majority of the alumni have become good house-makers applying what they have learned in economics in the management of their households. Several have taken self employment to become financially independent. We can proudly say that our department has helped students from different income groups in improving their knowledge and their standard of living.
The department is to conduct many co-curricular activities. The department has provided Book Bank facility to students. It has 178 books of 45 titles. The department has preserved question papers of previous years, question banks, syllabi and literature on current economic topics, CD’s, model question papers, and economic magazines. The college central library has 2388 economics books and 12 journals and periodicals along with RBI bulletin. Behind the success of the department there lies the dedication of serious team spirit and co operation of the college administration as well as our esteemed JSS Mahavidyapeetha. It is their joint endeavor to pursue the academic excellence.
